Compensation payouts to people living in damp and damaged council houses in England have reached more than £35m in the past five years.
Nearly 11,000 disrepair claims have been brought against councils since 2011/12, according to figures obtained by the BBC.
Seventy-five local authorities disclosed they had paid out £35.4m in total to deal with disrepair claims.
